Sex + Cannabis: Part 2
Is “Dry Pussy Syndrome” Really a Side-Effect of THC?
Is cotton pussy really a thing? Do men really have more orgasms than women?
We’re talking about all this and more with @foriawellness’s Chief Educational Officer, @kiana.reeves, sex educator, public care practitioner, and certified doula.
Q: Can you explain the pleasure gap for us?
A: The pleasure gap is essentially a phenomenon found in studies looking mainly at cis, white, heterosexual people, and these studies have found that women have experienced far less orgasms than their male counterparts. So essentially there’s a massive gap in how many climaxes women are having versus men.
However, within queer, lesbian, and bi-sexual relationships, there is less of a gap.
Q: Can you talk a little bit about CBD and libido?
A: Libido is the felt sense of desiring sexual connection and intimacy. And a whole lot of things go into that, not just how you’re relating to your partner, but also your own inherent drive to experience pleasure.
Libido is very much impacted by external environmental factors, as well as internal factors, including hormones, especially stress hormones, and your nervous system.
Libido needs the context of feeling safe, secure, and regulated. If you’re in a state of fight or flight, it’s very hard to feel present in your body.
CBD works with your nervous system to help regulate it and provide a sense of homeostasis, and helps to reduce stress and anxiety. This creates more ideal conditions for your body to be able to experience sexual connection.
CBD also helps to support arousal, which is the physiological state of being turned on. When you apply cannabinoids topically, for instance on the vulva, what happens is it supports blood flow and lubricates the vaginal walls. It also helps to engorge your clitoris and labia, all of which help to make sex feel pleasurable.
Q: Can you tell us about some products that Foria has that can help women enhance arousal?
A: Foria has a full intimacy line that’s really been developed for anybody that has a vulva. I’d start with the Awaken Arousal Oil—it’s made with CBD and 8 other organic plant extracts all working synergistically to bring that blood flow to the genitals.
Then we have our lube, and everyone should be using lube in the bedroom. Just by using lube you enhance pleasurable sensation by at least 30 percent!
We also have our intimacy suppositories, which is a highly concentrated dose of CBD delivered either intra-vaginally or rectally. I love this product because it’s really the first of its kind. It’s 50mg of CBD delivered in organic cocoa butter.
And it gets delivered right to the place where your boy can absorb it and help to bring blood flow to the G-spot and the cervix.
And finally, we have our flow pen, which was designed to help take you out of your head and into your body.
Q: Can you talk a bit about the cannabis intimacy journal that Foria created with Sophie Saint Thomas?
A: How many of us had good Sex Education when we were younger? Probably none of us. How many of us were taught how to touch our bodies pleasurably or how to pleasure a partner? We’ve literally all been stumbling around in the dark.
This journal is an opportunity to see how you can bring plant medicine into the bedroom to effectively enhance your experience with your partner, or yourself.
Q: Does THC give you cotton pussy?
A: It does not! THC is actually a vasodilator, which means it brings lots of blood flow to the area, and that also increases your lubrication.
Q: The most abundant CB-1 receptors in women’s bodies are located in the uterus. Can you talk more about that?
A: In addition to having receptors in our brain and central nervous system, we also have receptors in our pelvis, including the uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and along the vaginal canal. While there are currently no studies looking at the application of cannabinoids to these tissues, what we can gather from the feedback we’re getting on our products is that they help the pelvic muscles to relax and open. Cannabis is also an anti-inflammatory, so it can help to relieve pain. And finally, it helps to increase blood flow.
Q: Can you talk about The Tulip and what you have going on there?
A: The Tulip was an educational company that I founded with my sister because women’s health has not been prioritized by Western medicine. This is the reclamation and reprioritization of women’s important life experiences, like menopause, like post-partum, like having your period, like endometriosis, like sex.
Q: Does the pleasure gap vary across races, or primarily through sexual orientation?
A: That is a great question, and unfortunately because of racial biases, it’s mainly only been studied in regards to orientation. We really need the data!
