Let Sha'Carri Run!

The laws are unjust, and it's time to change them. Period.

For those who missed it, Sha’Carri Richardson is an American track and field sprinter and an Olympic athlete.

She was recently suspended for a month after testing positive for cannabis.

Last month, she won the women’s 100 meter race at the U.S. track and field trials in Oregon, but her positive test result immediately invalidated her win.

Her suspension technically ends in time for her to compete in the Tokyo games…

But she still won’t be allowed to compete because her win in the 100 meter—which is how the US determines who competes—was invalidated.

And because their strict anti-doping policy claims that cannabis “can enhance performance, and violates the spirit of the sport.

Ironic, considering runner’s high is literally a result of the endocannabinoid anandamide—-but I digress…

Why would Sha’Carri use cannabis so close to a race?

Because she had just found out that her biological mother passed away—DURING AN INTERVIEW.

Learning this news from a reporter was shocking and triggering, obviously! And in her panicked state, she turned to cannabis to help her cope.

Because as she recently tweeted, she is human.

But of course, the mental and emotional health of athletes matters little in comparison with their compliance to arbitrary, outdated rules.

Something else I find particularly funny is how they’re now saying weed is a “performance enhancer.”

Remember when the D.A.R.E. program taught all us Millennial kids that weed makes you lazy??

Now Gen Z kids are being taught that weed gives you an unfair physical advantage.

Um….which is it? Please make up your mind.

So if we know that the rules and laws surrounding cannabis are unjust, and if the people that made these rules are dead…

Then maybe, just maybe, it’s actually time to change them? 🤷🏽‍♀️
