The Negatives of Cannabis Use?
Yes, There Are Tons of Benefits to Cannabis Use—But There May Be a Drawback for Some Longterm Users
We the people of the cannabis industry have a bit of a bad habit. 😬
We’ve developed a reputation for only spouting the positives about the cannabis plant.
And rightly so! Decades of propaganda and misinformation have surrounded this plant.
All we’re trying to do is set the record straight and bring some balance to the information out there!
But as a cannabis educator, I feel it is also my responsibility to talk about the negatives…
So today, let’s talk about cannabis use & laziness—a myth you’ve probably heard your whole life about this plant.
Let’s start with why this a myth: there are literally strains that energize you!
So it is not at all accurate to say that cannabis makes you lazy.
However, there is a seed of truth to this.
Longterm cannabis use for some people can lead to a condition called amotivational syndrome.
PubMed describes this as: “a chronic psychiatric disorder characterized by a variety of changes in personality, emotions and cognitive functions such as lack of activity, inward-turning, avolition, apathy, incoherence, blunted affect, inability to concentrate and memory disturbance.”
Those with lower than normal dopamine levels are more likely to develop amotivational system.
So yes, there is a potential drawback to longterm cannabis use for some people.
It’s all about checking in with your body, and occasionally getting those tolerance breaks in!
What are all the ways cannabis interacts with our bodies? You’ll learn this & so much more in my 6-week Cannabis 101 online course.
“Only a couple of modules in, and the course far exceeds expectations—and I was expecting quite a bit. The information is extremely 'easy' to follow and very well put together.” —Cannabis 101 Student
