Cannabis Strains vs. Chemovars
Which One Actually Matters When Selecting Your Bud?
What’s your favorite strain? That is such a common question in the cannabis community, but…
…This question may not even exist in a few years.
Strain names originally came about when cannabis became illegal and growers & breeders had to go underground.
Fast forward to today when we have so many legal markets in the U.S., and there are THOUSANDS of strain names available.
But when we look at the chemical profiles of different plants of the same strain, what we’re finding is that they do not share the same chemical profiles, even though they’re the same cultivar/strain.
The more we research cannabis, we understand that it’s the chemical makeup of the entire plant—or chemovar—that determines the effects that plant will have when consumed.
So if you have a cannabis brand, it’s important to market the chemovar & its effects, versus a strain name, which is quickly becoming obsolete!
However, there's no surefire way that the consumer is going to feel that specific feeling post-consumption, because everyone is different.
It helps to figure out what your favorite terpenes are, or smells. An easy way to do this is by journaling your cannabis experience!
