The Real Reason The Church Is Anti-Cannabis
And It’s Not Because of The Good Book! It All Comes Back to Government Incentives
“The Good Lord gives us permission to use all plants with fruit, and all plants that bear seeds.” —Genesis 1:29
There’s no where in that Bible verse that says—“except, cannabis.”
That’s just what Christian leaders have lead you believe!
And it’s definitely not all Christian leaders.
The reason so many churches have taken an anti-cannabis stance is because the government provided grants for churches that established an anti-drug proposition—especially in regards to cannabis.
During the drug presidency of George W. Bush, he appointed drug czar, John P. Walters, a very religious man hell-bent on eradicating cannabis and punishing users.
He directed the head of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives to allow religious groups engaged in anti-drug activity to receive federal funds.
The propaganda campaign was titled, “Faith—The Anti-Drug.” Remember that?
The purpose of the program was to teach—you guessed it—cannabis abstinence.
John Walters’ view of the war on drugs was that it was a “conservative cultural revolution.” And that’s a big part of the reason the Right has been anti-cannabis ever since.
The crazy thing is, when cannabis was legal in 20+ states in the 70’s & 80’s, it was done by the right-wing. 🤯
Prior to this, an estimated only 2% of faith-based communities were preaching to youths on topics like substance abuse and cannabis.
This all changed because it was suddenly financially beneficial for the clergy & churches to start spreading anti-cannabis propaganda.
The moral of this story is: Cannabis is not ungodly! It was created by God. The reason churches take this position is…..shmoney.
