Cannabinoids in Breast Milk
Endogenous Cannabinoids from Mothers’ Breast Milk Have a Critical Role to Play in Babies' Health!
Did you know that breast milk has endocannabinoids—like anandamide (AEA) and 2-Arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG)—naturally occurring in it?
But the craziest part about that is…
In some states, they will take your child away if they have cannabinoids (from the cannabis plant) in their body.
This hypocrisy is one of the reasons I’m so passionate about cannabis education.
Up to 12 different endocannabinoids have been detected in breast milk—the most abundant being 2-AG.
And these cannabinoids play a critical role in the baby’s health!
Breast milk cannabinoids stimulate the CB1 receptor and trigger the muscles responsible for suckling, helping babies to eat.
In fact, it’s so important that low endogenous cannabinoids in the mother’s milk can result in a higher risk of malnutrition for the baby.
They’re also thought to aid in neonatal immunity and baby’s brain development.
But the hypocrisy remains over that one cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant, THC. And the crazy part is, our body makes our own version of that, too!
Just more proof that the human body was built for cannabinoids.

“Only a couple of modules in, and the course far exceeds expectations—and I was expecting quite a bit. The information is extremely 'easy' to follow and very well put together.” —Cannabis 101 Student
