My Blunt Rolling Secrets Revealed
Making Your Own Tips, My All-Time Favorite Blunt Wraps, And…The Technique! 💯
We’re continuing our series on consumption methods.
Today, I'm going to teach you how to roll a blunt. Or as I like to call it, My Magic Wand. 🔮 😂
It's my bread and butter. It's one of the things I do best.
And people ask me to teach them how to do it–all. the. time.
So today, I’m sharing my secrets with all of you!
Mind you, everybody rolls blunts differently, so maybe the techniques I use are different from what you see or what you're comfortable with.
And that's okay. Take what you need, and leave the rest behind.
FACT CHECK
So I always like to break down the history of things before we get into the video.
But if you caught last week’s video on My Favorite Ways to Smoke a Bong, then you already know that cannabis has been something that has been smoked for eons, even though it's considered an evil today.
And what many don’t realize is that tobacco is often grown with radioactive synthetic fertilizers, that stick to the leaves. And that’s part of why it causes cancer.
However, when you smoke quality cannabis, it actually works as a bronchodilator, benefiting the airways.
In fact, there used to be asthma cigarettes made with cannabis (and soon may be again!)
One of the terpenes that's found in cannabis most abundantly, pinene, is actually one of the reasons why it works as a bronchodilator.
So yes, to me, smoking a blunt is like taking my daily asthma medication.*
GATHER YOUR SUPPLIES
Let's get to it! First, gather all of your supplies.
(FYI, none of the products I link to below are sponsored, they’re just what I actually use on the daily.)
1. A Rolling Tray 📓
The first thing you're going to need is some kind of rolling tray. It could be a magazine, it could be a book, it could be a designated rolling tray, or it could be a collapsible rolling tray like mine, which I love!
2. Blunt Wraps 📜
There are SO many different blunt types & flavors to choose from! Now traditionally blunt wraps are made with tobacco leaves, but my personal favorite way to consume a blunt is with a hemp wrap.
My all-time favorite are these blueberry-flavored hemp wraps by Royal Blunts. They’re BIG, so you can roll an extra large fatty, or you can split it in half and have two skinnies, which is my preference.
3. Flower 🌿
Next, you're gonna need some flower. I have one of my favorites here, the Originals Oaksterdam OG. I love an OG, it helps me with my ADHD.
4. Grinder (optional, but beneficial!) ✨
Some people prefer using their fingers to break up the flower, which allows them to touch and smell the herb. I love using my Pussyweed grinder.
Plus there are real benefits to using a grinder. When the herb is ground finely, it helps you to pack the blunt more densely. And the blunt burns more slowly & evenly.
Most importantly, a grinder preserves the potency of the flower, because the sticky trichomes won’t get stuck to your fingers!
5. Tips (optional, but highly recommended) 🙌
It’s 2022! It's time to upgrade your smoking game! We are beyond allowing Scooby Snacks to ruin the ritual of smoking. (The little particles of flower that fly in your mouth when you smoke.)
Tips also strengthen the blunt, and keep the end from getting soggy—preserving all of the herb at the end. Get yourself a tip already!
TIME TO ROLL: ACHIEviNG THE PERFECT BLUNT 💨
Time to assemble our blunt. Let’s go!
1. Grind
Grab about 3 nugs, break them down so they’ll fit into your grinder. And be sure to remove any stems–they’ll try to break through the paper!
Put the lid back on, press down to get the flower into the grooves of the grinder. And then, grind away moving the lid and base in opposite directions, back and forth.
2. Fold Your Filter
You can buy non-perforated and perforated filters that you fold yourself–or you can buy pre-made tips already ready to go!
I personally prefer to buy perforated filters that I fold myself, because then I can customize the size of the tip depending on whether I want to smoke a fatty or a skinny.
If you’re rolling a skinny, you want to fold the filter tightly. Here’s how…
Fold one end of the filter 4 times, in alternating directions to create an accordion fold.
Then roll the remaining paper around your accordion fold. Keep rolling and pressing the tip in your fingers until it maintains its shape.
3. Prep Your Wrap
Next, hemp wrap. Since I’m using a double XL wrap from Royal Blunts, I can tear it in half and use it to create two skinnies. You could also roll one fatty if you prefer.
Just fold it in half longways, then gently tear it down the middle. Save the other half for later!
4. Load the Wrap
Hold your filter at one end of the wrapper with your thumb.
Then with your other hand, start placing your flower along the inside of the wrap, leaving room at the opposite end. Because some flower usually falls out the tip.
Press it down gently, just to make sure it's all laying nicely.
Now it’s time to roll!
5. Tuck AND Roll
Starting from the center of the blunt, start tucking the wrapper in. You don’t want to roll it super tight, that will restrict air flow.
Work your way from the center out to the ends, tucking. Then start rolling. Tuck & roll at the same time until your blunt takes shape.
6. Seal the Center with a Lick 👅
Now it’s time to activate the adhesive on the blunt, I’m using my saliva! But you can buy products if you don’t want to use your mouth.
Again starting from the center of the blunt, lick and spin the blunt in your mouth to seal it all the way around. Then work your way down to the filter end.
Moving from the center down to the other end, give it another tuck & roll to ensure it’s the proper shape. Seal it, and smooth the seam with your fingers. And there you have it!
7. FIX the Tip
If some flower fell out of the end of your bunt, no worries! Now you can add some back into the tip to finish it off.
8. Spark Up! 🔥
Now, for the best part! It’s time to test it out and see how well it was rolled.
Bonus Tip: To avoid canoeing (which is when it only burns down one side) make sure you rotate the tip of your blunt in the flame to light it evenly on all sides. 🛶
There you have it. A perfectly rolled blunt. And you can do it, too. I promise. It's that simple.
If you made a mess, don’t get discouraged! In order to become a really good blunt roller, it takes practice.
So what I recommend is if you can get enough material so that you can roll five blunts in a row, and I promise by that fifth one, you're really going to have the hang of it!
And bonus, you'll also have five blunts rolled up. 😉
