How to Use a Bong

Let’s Explore My Favorite Ways to Smoke a Bong, Including Using a Battery-Free Vaporizer, Hemp Wick & More

In this series, we're talking consumption methods. There are so many ways to consume your cannabis, and one size does not fit all.

Some people prefer joints. Some people prefer blunts, and some people prefer glass.

But in today's video, I'm going to teach you how to use a bong—along with some new methods you may not have tried before.

Now before we get started, I have to give a shout out to today's sponsor DynaVap. They make battery-free vaporizers, like the VonG they sent me that I’ll demo for you today.

They’re also proud sponsors of Cutie University’s educational programs, so we’ve got lots of love for them! 💖

But also their products are just on point. The important thing about having a vaporizer without tech is that it's much more sustainable.

You're not worried about what to do with this battery when you're done with it, it doesn't end up in a landfill.

And you can combust your own flower, as opposed to oils or concentrates that you typically see on the market.

And it's a healthier way to preserve the terpenes. So honestly, it's one of my favorite cannabis products.

We'll demo it today in the video.

But first, a little history…

How Smoking Cannabis Became Stigmatized

Cannabis is one of the oldest cultivated plants known to humanity.

And it’s considered not only a healing plant medicine, but it's also a source for food and other products like ropes, textiles, soaps, cosmetics…

…You name it, the cannabis plant can probably produce it.

Historically, cannabis has been smoked for rituals and ceremonial, rites like funerals, and also for relaxation.

Chinese Emperors used cannabis, Greek gods were said to use cannabis.

So it's all about elevating the spirit.

Now, fast forward to today, a lot of people think that smoking is bad for you.

But we're going to smoke it today because it actually does contain benefits.

Cannabis works as a bronchodilator–meaning it opens up your airways.

In the past in the United States, you could actually buy asthma cigarettes made with cannabis. Not kidding.

Now the act of smoking cannabis came to the United States via our friends south of the border.

We had something going on called the Mexican Revolution. And our friends were coming to the United States as refugees.

And with them, they brought this cannabis that they were smoking.

Now typically, Americans were consuming cannabis in a different way.

They were buying it over-the-counter—in fact, it was the number 3 medicine sold in the United States at the time!!

People were using it for tummy aches, to help with sleep, with mood disorders, all the things that we use cannabis for today.

The only difference is they weren't combusting it and inhaling it. Like our friends from Mexico.

They had no idea that this new “marijuana” that was allegedly causing white women to sleep with black men, and causing jazz players to play Satanic music, that this marijuana was the same thing that was in their medicine cabinet at home.

It was just a different way of consuming it–and a different name for it.

So that's where the evil of smoking cannabis started.

But today, we know that it's not evil at all. And actually, jazz music is now the music you always hear on elevators.

Smoking vs Edibles: The Pros and Cons

1. Smoking cannabis gives you immediate effects. 🤸🏽‍♀️

When you eat an edible, you have to wait and it can be anywhere from 10 minutes to up to two hours before the full effects kick in.

And that's not ideal for somebody who's looking for immediate relaxation and calming.

2. Another pro is titration–which means you get to stop when you're done. 🙅‍♀️

But with edibles, you may be done, but they may not be done with you. For several hours! Which leads me to my next point.

3. The effects from smoking usually only last 1-3 hours.

Now again, in comparison with edibles where you could be on a fun ride for about four hours or more…

And if that's not what you want, it is not ideal.

So the beauty of smoking is that you know it's going to wear off.

Sooner rather than later!

4. Another pro of smoking is that you actually get to see & touch the plant before you inhale it. 👀

The benefit of touching the flower is you get to feel and smell, and see if this is something you want to consume, which is very important when you're smoking cannabis.

Sometimes the flower can be old, or it could be dry, or it's just not that good.

You also get the chance to smell the terps & see what kind of effect it may have on you.

And then it's being put into an edible and you never know.

At least when you're smoking and touching it, you'll know if this is something that you're eager to put into your body, or if you just want to pass it all together.

5. Finally, smoking cannabis is ritualistic. 🧘🏽📿

Now, if you're somebody who is spiritual, you can set your intention. And you can get really into the moment and be present while smoking, or rolling your joint, or packing your bowl.

So it's definitely a form of self care for some of us–like myself.

The cons of smoking are pretty simple: there's a good chance you're going to be coughing, your eyes are probably going to turn red, or even a little glassy and dry.  😮‍💨

You're gonna have the smell of cannabis all over you, your breath is probably going to smell a little bit like smoke as well.

That's not something we’re fans of…

But overall, the cons are not as bad as the potential cons of consuming an edible.

If you take an edible that's too strong, you might end up going to the hospital to pay for the most expensive nap you’ll ever have. So, all in all, I say the pros outweigh the cons.

All right, now for the good stuff.

HOW TO USE A BONG

Now to demo how to use a bong.

I'm going to teach you how to properly load it, how to use it with a lighter, and with a hemp wick, and how to use a bong with a vaporizer.

First, grab your bong. I’m using a beautiful glass bong with a yellow silicone base. It’s super easy to clean, very innovative.

The first thing you want to do is make sure the whole thing is clean, and add fresh water!

Especially if this is your first time.

Bongs can be a great place for bacteria to grow—we don’t want that! 😷

Load it with some flower. So you just want to pack it in there–not too tight.

You want there to be enough airflow for you to inhale.

And if you pack it too tight, it's kind of like it's a clogged airway. You don't want that.

Now I've got my bowl packed up, and first we're going to light it with a lighter.

You're not going to torch the entire bowl. Focus on getting a little corner. If you torch the entire bowl, you're wasting the cannabis.

Instead take your time and go around the bowl. Doing it that way you're preserving and maximizing your money, and in today's economy, that is important!

Finally, take the bowl and place it back into the bong. Now the fun shall begin–cheers!

If you don't want to smoke the entire bowl, you don't have to. You can save it for later!

Smoking with a Hemp Wick

Now I'm going to show you how to use a bong with a hemp wick.

Rather than torching your bowl with the lighter directly, you use your lighter to light the hemp wick.

And then smoke with the wick.

That way you're not inhaling as much butane from the lighter as you normally would.

Now, hemp wicks are all about preference for me. It definitely takes some time getting used to–I can never put these things out!

Overall though, I do prefer smoking with a hemp wick because I find that it’s a much less harsh rip than using a butane lighter.

And it tastes better!

My Favorite: Vaporizing with the VonG 💚

All right, now I'm going to show you how to use a vaporizer with a bong.

Let's talk about today's sponsor!

Here we have the VonG by DynaVap made with sustainable wood, by hand. Isn't that gorgeous!

The best part? There’s zero electric parts to worry about. 🙌

So you can take it wherever you want without having to worry whether you have electricity nearby.

Or whether your battery is going to die!

You can heat it up with an induction heater, or you can simply use a lighter, or torch.

It's made entirely in the USA, and it's very easy to use.

So without further ado, let me show you how it works.

HOW TO USE A VAPORIZER WITH A BONG

1. So first, I'm going to take the VonG and remove the cap.

And this doubles as a scoop or to clean out your VonG once you're done ripping it.

2. Load the VonG with ground flower.

3. Then I'm going to place the cap back on.

4. Heat the heating chamber either using an induction heater like I have here, or use a torch.

5. You know it’s ready to go when you hear the click.

6. Now let her rip! Take your VonG, and place it in the bowl of your bong and smoke it that way.

That last step is optional—you can also smoke it like any other vaporizer without the bong.

Either way, it tastes SO good!!

THE BENEFITS: Tasting Your Terps! 🍋

The benefit of using a DynaVap is that it's preserving the terpenes because I'm not applying any direct heat to the flower.

So I'm getting to taste exactly what the terp profile tastes like–instead of butane or something else that I don't want to taste.

You'll know when it's cooled down and when you can touch it again, when you hear a click.  Then it's safe to use, and you can reload it and go at it again.

Now, the VonG does not need to be used in a bong like I did here, you can also use it just like a regular vaporizer.

I think it's so cool that you can finally use a dry flower vape without any batteries, so shout out to DynaVap for supporting Cutie University’s programs, and for sending over such an innovative & dope product.

Pun intended.

If you’d like to get yourself a VonG–which I’d highly recommend–you can use code CUTIE on their site to save 10% on your order today.*

Well, that's all I have for you. I hope you learned something new today.

Until next time, peace. ✌️
