Know Your Cannabinoid Classes

In 60 seconds, we break down the 3 different classes of cannabinoids & bust some big myths about our bodies!

There are three classes of cannabinoids, which are the chemical compounds that bind to the cannabinoid receptors in your brain and body.

While they all have similar effects, these three classes all have different origins—only one of which is from the cannabis plant!

Phytocannabinoids

“Phyto” meaning plant—phytocannabinoids are those that do originate in the cannabis plant. CBD & THC are the most widely-known of this class of cannabinoids.

Synthetic Cannabinoids

These cannabinoids are human-created in a lab, and bind to the same cannabinoid receptors in your body. While they may produce some similar effects to the cannabis plant, these compounds are quite different from naturally-occurring cannabinoids and can also have some undesirable side effects.

Endocannabinoids

“Endo” means inside—and these cannabinoids are produced inside your body! Yes, your body produces its own cannabinoids, and one example of this is “runner’s high.”

Commonly thought to be a result of endorphins, runner’s high is actually caused by anandamide, the Bliss Molecule, which produces very similar effects to THC!
