Interview Highlights
Tammy: Do you prefer Indica or Sativa?
Tim: I’m an Indica guy. Sativa gives me high anxiety, and then when the high goes away I crash.
Tammy: We are twins! I get super bad anxiety too on sativa, it must be the genes.
Tammy: Tell us what you do in the cannabis space.
Tim: I have a dispensary called Good Karma in Oklahoma City. A Smoke Shop called Trifecta and we have a cannabis + hookah lounge as well. Oklahoma is kind of the Wild Wild West, so we’re allowed to do a lot more than most states even though only medical cannabis is legal. I’m also in the process of trying to get together a grow with some teammates.
Tammy: Tell us about the first time you smoked weed.
Tim: I didn’t smoke cannabis for the first time until I was 25 years old. We were on our way to Dave & Busters, me, you & my wife, and you were using a Pax. And you were like, “Tim, just do it!” And I said no. And then you said, “Look, I’ll give you 50 bucks.” I still said no. Then you said, “I’ll give you $150.” And my wife hit me on the shoulder and said, “Our electricity bill is about to be due, you better take that hit!” So I took the hit, and I’ve been a pot head ever since.
Tammy: I knew that would be the end. And if I remember the story correctly, it was actually $450 of my birthday money I had to give you. I was tired of being judged, and I wanted you to come to the Green Side.
Tim: It was a game changer for sure, best game changer in my life.
Tammy: Can you talk about Runner’s High and how it’s similar to what you experience with cannabis?
Tim: I used to run all the time, miles and miles just for fun. When I got high for the first time, the feeling was familiar. And when I went running again, I realized the feelings were the same. It’s so similar, it helps clear my mind, very therapeutic & good for my mental health.
Tammy: Tell us about some events you have coming up.
Tim: At Good Karma this Saturday at 12pm, we’re doing a Jog & Joints event. I coached track for 10 years if my life, all throughout my 20s, and it’s a big passion of mine. So I love to tie running into my cannabis work. So we put a Jog & Joints event together, with a 20-minute community run/jog/walk, and after we’ll have a sesh & some fruit with Tajin while a local band plays. It’s going to be a great time.
Tammy: Tell us about your podcast.
Tim: My podcast is The Positive Truth podcast, and we focus only on positive news—that’s it. We don’t focus on the negative news since there’s plenty of that on TV and social media already. We find people that are doing positive things in the community, whether it’s celebrities or every day people, and interview them. We’ve been doing it for 4.5 years now, and we’ve got listeners all over the world.
Tammy: You named your dispensary “Good Karma,” are you spiritual?
Tim: It’s funny you ask that. I wasn’t spiritual at all, but you being my sister and doing what you do, it did influence me to expand my horizons. You were always more open-minded than me. So now at 32, I can definitely say I’m a spiritual individual.
Tammy: Were you upset at me for going to a different college than you?
Tim: No, I was nervous to go to school without you in college since it was our first time being separated. But no I wasn’t mad. I almost thought about going to OSU, but I didn’t because you were going there and needed your space.
Tammy: Talk about being a cannabis parent.
Tim: In reality, being a parent is so fun, and my daughter is my everything. She actually motivated me to get out of coaching and step into the cannabis industry even more.
Tammy: How hard was the process of starting a cannabusiness in Oklahoma?
Tim: At the time, it was a $2500 license you needed to get, it’s now $3500. But it’s not hard to get at all—although they’re capping licenses later in the year. So now is the time to get one. You just need an Oklahoma ID, be a resident of the state for at least 2 years, and have a business plan for your cannabusiness.
